@RoadrunnerSB: Sansburn Leads MSU Denver to Doubleheader Sweep

Five-RBI day helps Roadrunners move up in RMAC standings

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Megan Sansburn (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge) drove in five runs Saturday to lead Metropolitan State University of Denver to a doubleheader sweep over Adams State.

Sansburn hit a two-run, second-inning homer as the Roadrunners cruised to a 9-1 victory in the opener, then had a run-scoring walk and an RBI double in MSU Denver's 12-4 win in the nightcap.

MSU Denver improved to 17-19 overall and moved up to fifth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at 12-8. Adams State dropped to 6-27 and 6-15. The same teams play another doubleheader Sunday at 11 a.m.

"Megan has been struggling a little but to find the rhythm she had last season, but she had some really good practices with hitting this week," MSU Denver coach Annie Van Wetzinga said. "I was excited for her going into the weekend and to see how she would do. She had a big day for us and was certainly one of our spark plugs today with big hits."

Darby McGhee (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) (7-8) pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Julia Heitz (Queen Creek, Ariz./Queen Creek) and Destinee Lopez (La Verne, Calif./Bonita) combined to defeat the Grizzlies in the second game, allowing a total of eight hits.

"We were able to jump on them early which takes a lot of pressure off of our pitchers, so that was nice," Van Wetzinga said.

Rebecca Gonzales (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) went 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the second game, while leadoff hitter Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) was 3-for-6 with three RBIs for the day.

"We got some really big two-out hits in both games," Van Wetzinga said. "That's something we've been struggling with as a team, so it was a relief to have different players step up and drive runs in with two outs.
