@MSUDenverWSOC: Roadrunners Suffer Tough 1-0 Setback

Cal Poly Pomona scores the lone goal in overtime

POMONA, Calif. – At least conference play starts this week.

The MSU Denver women's soccer team suffered another heartbreaking 1-0 non-conference defeat on Sunday as Cal Poly Pomona scored with eight seconds left in the first overtime period.

"That was their best chance of the game," Metropolitan State University of Denver coach Tracy Chao said. "We gave it to them, and they capitalized. But I really don't want our team to feel defeated. We were right in it, and Pomona is one of the better teams we've played so far."

Taylor Scott's goal at 99:52 dropped the Roadrunners to 1-4 heading into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, with games Friday at New Mexico Highlands and Sunday at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

"The biggest thing for us is that every game has fueled us," Chao said. "That's a solid team, and we played well against them, and now we go into conference. Everyone is 0-0. All our goals are still attainable. We'll self-reflect as a team, as a coaching staff and as players. We'll use the lessons we've learn to grow and fuel us for Friday."

Cal Poly Pomona (2-2) had a 15-9 advantage in shots, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

MSU Denver was shut out for the third straight game.

The Roadunners put shots on frame in the eighth minute (Katy Harris), 12th minute (Hailey Mazzola), 42nd minute (Kailey Maness) and 83rd minute (Paloma Teran).

"The players continue to do the things we ask them to do – to play with energy and intensity – and that's all we can ask," Chao said. "Hopefully the chips will start to fall our way."
