DENVER – On this date in 2016, Julian Garcia pitched a nine-inning complete game, striking out nine, in a 4-2 baseball victory over Regis. Garcia was drafted in the 10
th round by the Philadelphia Phillies later in 2016 and reached Class AA last season.
That performance highlights our latest installment of "On This Date in Roadrunners History," which look backs at the biggest accomplishments in MSU Denver athletics on that particular calendar day.

1987 – MSU Denver earned its sixth straight baseball victory, a 12-6 Colorado Intercollegiate Baseball Association decision at Colorado School of Mines. The Roadrunners eventually won the league at 18-1. Torin Berge hit a team-best .487, while Steve Ciberay was 8-0 with a 4.08 ERA as MSU Denver went 34-15 overall.
1990 – The MSU Denver baseball team swept a tripleheader at Fort Hays State (Kan.) 9-1, 12-0 and 7-1. Anthony Cortez led the Roadrunners' pitching staff that season, going 9-3 with a 3.86 ERA, while Rusty Befus hit .363 with team highs of 15 homers and 50 RBIs. MSU Denver finished 33-18.
1997 – En route to a 13-3 overall record, the MSU Denver men's tennis team defeated Northern Colorado 9-0. Leading the team that season were Peter Lantz (19-5 in singles) and Manuel Ponce (20-3), who combined to go 21-2 in doubles.
2001 – The MSU Denver men's tennis team swept RMAC affiliate member Montana State-Billings 9-0 as part of a 15-9, NCAA Tournament season. Jarrad Rexilius was 13-6 in singles for that team, and paired with Michael Judd to go 15-6 at No. 1 doubles.
2006 – Mike Hoefs got the save in each game as MSU Denver swept a baseball doubleheader from Nebraska-Kearney, 5-4 and 7-4.
2014 – Nathalie Gallacher shot a 3-over 75 to finish third individually with a two-day total of 9-over 153 to lead MSU Denver's women's golf team to a third-place finish among eight teams at the Regis Spring Invitational. In the program's first season, Gallacher's 75 was at the time the program's best score.
