PUEBLO, Colo. – CSU-Pueblo seized early momentum with a goal in the sixth minute and another in the 21
st, then held on for a 2-1 victory Sunday over MSU Denver in women's soccer.
Jaimy Sawaged scored her second goal of the season at 68:46 to pull the Roadrunners within 2-1, but MSU Denver wasn't able to get the equalizer.
CSU-Pueblo improved to 6-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while MSU Denver dropped to 5-4-2 and 2-4.
MSU Denver has lost three straight road games to the teams picked to finish first, second and third, respectively, in the RMAC, while its other loss was on the road to the team picked to finish fourth.
"We're looking forward to coming home after playing the top three teams in the conference on the road," MSU Denver coach
Kat Mertz said. "For us it's really important to finish the season strong by just taking one at a time. We knew these past two weeks would be difficult, and sometimes we make it a little more difficult on ourselves than we need to."
Besides Sawaged,
Katy Coats and
Julia Stanton were each credited with shots on goal.
Kylie Bach came off the bench and made five saves.
MSU Denver returns home for Hispanic Heritage Night on Sept. 15, with a 7 p.m. game against New Mexico Highlands.
