@MSUDenverMSOC: Roadrunners Pick Up Critical Point in Draw with CSU-Pueblo

MSU Denver in fifth place heading into the final day of the regular season

DENVER – MSU Denver extended its unbeaten streak to four games and picked up a critical point in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Friday by playing CSU-Pueblo to a 0-0 tie at the Assembly Athletic Complex.

"I thought we battled well tonight against a good team," MSU Denver coach Nick Kirchhof.

Ross Miller made four saves in posting his second straight shutout and third of the season, while Aidan Bates put two shots on goal.

CSU-Pueblo (12-4-2 overall and fourth in the RMAC at 5-3-2 for 17 points) had a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal, while MSU Denver had a 12-11 edge in shots. Each team had five corner kicks.

"We created some good chances, hit the post, hit the cross bar, and it looked like we were going to score," Kirchhof said. "I'm happy with the effort and energy from the guys today to neutralize some of their great attacking players as well."

By picking up one point, the Roadrunners now stand in fifth place, one point ahead of four teams with 12 points who are also still in the hunt for one of six spots in the RMAC Tournament.

MSU Denver (7-8-2, 4-4-1 RMAC) plays one of those teams, UCCS (8-7-1, 4-5) in a 1:30 p.m. game Sunday at the Assembly Athletic Complex.

UCCS is tied with Colorado Christian, Regis and Fort Lewis entering what could be a wild final day of the regular season. Colorado Christian has the toughest matchup, playing nationally-ranked Colorado Mesa, while Regis and Fort Lewis are playing the bottom two teams in the RMAC in Adams State and South Dakota Mines, respectively.

That could make Sunday's MSU Denver-UCCS matchup a winner-take-all affair for a trip to the postseason.

"Now we rest, recover and look forward to Sunday's game with a chance to get into the RMAC tournament," Kirchhof said.
