Box Score GUNNISON, Colo. – No. 1 MSU Denver shook off a slow start and eventually sailed to its 19
th straight victory Friday night, defeating Western Colorado 3-0 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball match.
The Roadrunners overcome five set points in the first set in rallying from a 24-19 deficit for a 27-25 win, then improved to 21-2 overall and 15-0 in the RMAC by winning the next two sets 25-16, 25-22.
"I was proud of how we fought back with our backs against the wall in the first set," MSU Denver coach
Jenny Glenn said. "To take the first set took a lot of grit and composure."
Rylee Hladky had a match-high 13 kills on .303 hitting and added 11 digs, while
Avaline Lai had nine kills and three blocks for MSU Denver.
Jessa Megenhardt set 15 assists,
Mikayla McClinton had five blocks (two solo) and
Ashlyn Cianciulli had 17 digs.
MSU Denver hit .256 while holding Western Colorado (12-11, 7-8) to .107 efficiency. The Roadrunners also had eight blocks.
"Western played scrappy defense, kept balls alive and forced us to continue rallies and find different ways to score," Glenn said. "They were really aggressive against us, and we handled that well enough to finish it in three."
MSU Denver concludes its road trip Friday with a 4 p.m. match at Fort Lewis.
