@MSUDenverWBB: Roadrunners Can't Hold Off Late Western Colorado Charge

Western Colorado outscores MSU Denver 31-17 in fourth quarter, overcomes 10-point deficit

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado outscored MSU Denver 31-17 in the fourth quarter while overcoming a 10-point deficit and earned an 82-72 victory Saturday in women's college basketball.

MSU Denver led 53-43 with 2:24 left in the third quarter before being outscored 39-19 over the final 12:24.

"We just weren't getting stops, and then we were frustrated when we couldn't score," MSU Denver coach Tanya Haave said. "It was just kind of a breakdown. But give them credit, they made plays against us."

Allie Navarette led MSU Denver with 23 points and six rebounds while making 9 of 11 from the field. Morgan Griego had 14 points and five rebounds, while Alex Carlton added 13 points.

Bri Bailey hit 2 of 3 from 3-point range while scoring eight points in 13 minutes. Jaela Richardson was called for four fouls in only 12 minutes, but managed four points and six rebounds.

MSU Denver shot 53.8 percent from the field (28 of 52), but Western Colorado also shot well at 52.9 percent (27 of 51) while making 7 of 16 (43.8 percent) from 3. The Mountaineers shot 72.7 percent (8 of 11) from the field in the fourth quarter.

"We just need to have better focus when we're on the road, and when we've got a lead we have to be able to put someone away," Haave said. "But give them credit, it was their (conference) opening game at home. They were ultra-aggressive with us and we didn't match their intensity."
