DENVER – MSU Denver's
Jenny Glenn earned her 100
th win as the program's volleyball coach on Saturday, and it didn't take long for her to get No. 101 either.
The Roadrunners, NCAA Division II's fourth-ranked team, sailed past both CSU-Pueblo and Colorado Christian in 3-0 sweeps Saturday at the Auraria Event Center.
"Today was a solid performance and a great team effort," Glenn said. "We applied consistent pressure to both opponents, and we were efficient from start to finish. This team has multiple solutions and I continue to be impressed with our ability to adjust."
While taking her team to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Glenn improved to 101-32 ( a .759 winning percentage) in only her fifth season as head coach.
"I know it sounds so cliché, but it's the truth -- 100 wins and I've never touched the floor in a single one," Glenn said. "We've had a lot of student-athletes who have trusted the process and trusted us as a coaching staff, so by no means is it for me. My staff, Amy (Watanabe) and Matt (Deming), and previously Bobby (Blanken, the Colorado Christian head coach), have worked extremely hard, as well as the athletes."
Against CSU-Pueblo, which is receiving votes in the Divison II poll, MSU Denver cruised to a 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 win.
"They really put a lot of pressure on us at the start of the match," Glenn said. "They are a pretty aggressive serving team, so they gave us a taste of our own medicine. They pushed us back for a while but we responded and got back into our rhythm."
Kayla White had a double-double of 15 kills and 13 digs, hitting .364.
"Kayla made really great offensive decisions all day," Glenn said. "She utilized multiple different shots."
Against Colorado Christian, despite hitting just .174 in the first set, the Roadrunners hit .443 the rest of the way in winning 25-18, 25-12, 25-15.
"Colorado Christian played really good defense," Glenn said. "We were hitting well below our average after the first set. They were digging a lot of balls that we haven't necessarily seen dug and forced us into different shots. I was really proud of how we adjusted and had solutions as the match wore on."
Rylee Hladky had a match-high 13 kills, White added 11, Mikalyla McClinton was perfect with five kills in five swings and added five block assists, and freshman
Delaney Eckhardt had a career-high 20 assists while playing in two sets.
MSU Denver returns to action Feb. 28, with a 1 p.m. home match against South Dakota Mines.
