DENVER – UCCS outscored MSU Denver in the first half and then held on for a 2-1 victory Sunday in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's soccer on Senior Day for the Roadrunners'
Benjamin Brill.
Alex Andersson scored on a penalty kick in the 31
st minute, and Liam McGuire scored off a corner kick less than three minutes later for UCCS.
But MSU Denver cut the margin in half at 44:29 as
Marcus Rangel redirected a free kick by
Marco Millan into the goal.
"I think we came out well, created a couple early chances and we right there in the game," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "Unfortunately we made a couple mistakes, mental lapses, and they capitalized. It was great to get the goal before half and it showed some fight.
"In the second half, we just lost our legs playing against a fresh team with more depth."
UCCS had a 15-13 advantage in shots, but also had an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.
MSU Denver goalkeeper
Nick Jansen matched a career-best with nine saves.
Gianni Steijlen paced the Roadrunners with four shots and was one of six to put a shot on goal.
"Overall, I'm happy that we played all of our games this season," Kirchhof said. "Guys got a lot of minutes and are beginning to understand how important the details are with college soccer.
"I'm confident we can get to where we want to be as a program if we focus and keep improving each day."
