@MSUDenverBSB: Piazza Blasts 2 Homers as No. 21 Roadrunners Cruise

MSU Denver improved to 31-8 with 21-1 victory

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Niko Piazza had two homers and six RBIs and four MSU Denver pitchers held Colorado Christian to six hits as the 21st-ranked Roadrunners rolled to a 21-1 victory on Friday.

"It was a great day today," MSU Denver coach Ryan Strain said. "We did everything well."

Piazza clubbed a two-run, first-inning homer to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead, added a two-run shot in the fourth to make it 8-0, drew a bases-loaded walk later in the fourth to make it 13-0 and finally added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 19-1.

Piazza now has 10 homers and 46 RBIs for the season.

The Roadrunners (31-8 overall, 27-8 and second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) scored 13 runs in the fourth inning.

"When Niko got the home run in the first inning to put us up 3-0, we just kept rolling from there," Strain said.

Piazza, Owen Reynolds, Cody Schultz and Alex Gonzales all had three hits for MSU Denver. Schultz also homered.

Jimmy Dobrash pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven, to improve to 7-1. Josh Thompson, Brady Mello and Brandon Moore finished up from there.

"It started with Dobrash," Strain said. "He gave us a great start, really pitched well. And then Thompson, Mello and Moore all threw the ball well, too."

The teams wrap up the series Saturday, with the series shifting to the Assembly Athletic Complex for a 10 a.m. game.
