DENVER – For the second time in three seasons at the Colorado Premier Challenge, the MSU Denver volleyball team took down the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II.
The No. 20 Roadrunners rolled to a 3-0 victory over Division II dynasty Concordia-St. Paul to advance to the Gold Division's Championship match. MSU Denver played Wayne State (Neb.) in the championship later Saturday at Regis Field House.
It's the second time in program history that the Roadrunners reached the tournament championship as they try to add to the 2003 team's title.
Avaline Lai had 14 kills on .500 hitting (one error, 26 attacks), and added two blocks assists as MSU Denver (5-2) cruised 25-18, 25-19, 25-16.
True freshman
Riley Anderson had eight kills, and
Rylee Hladky and
Alexis Benda each added seven.
Mikayla McClinton had four blocks.
Amela Qershia had team highs of 18 kills and 11 digs.
