BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Rylee Hladky and
Mikayla McClinton each had seven kills and No. 11 MSU Denver served nine aces in a season-opening 3-0 sweep of Sonoma State (Calif.) on Friday.
Hladky had four of the Roadrunners' nine service aces, while McClinton added a team-best three blocks as the Roadrunners cruised 25-21, 25-19, 25-17 at the Western Washington Invitational.
Avaline Lai and
Ember Canty each had six kills, while
Kaylee Corsentino added five and
Alexis Benda contributed four more to the balanced attack.
Canty hit .600 (no errors, 10 attacks) while adding two blocks.
Ashlyn Cianciulli had a team-high 11 digs, while
Jessa Megenhardt had 15 assists for the Roadrunners, who hit .211 as a team.
MSU Denver was in control most of the way, slipping briefly only in the third set. After falling behind 8-2, the Roadrunners stormed back to score 23 of the match's final 32 points.
MSU Denver is also scheduled to play at 6 p.m. MDT Friday against Central Washington.
