GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – MSU Denver gave up a pair of second-half goals Sunday in losing 2-0 at Colorado Mesa in men's soccer, completing a difficult weekend road trip.
"We had a good game plan in the first half, and I thought we did well executing it," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "We both had a couple of chances, and I thought it was a very even game in the first half.
Colorado Mesa (7-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) scored the game's first goal in the 58
th minute.
"In the second half, unfortunately, we didn't come out as assertively as we needed to be," Kirchhof said. "We gave up a corner, had a miscue and their guy scored. It was unfortunate.
"After that, we had some good moments, but we ran out of legs. That final pass, that final decision, wasn't there for us. We fought fairly hard, but then giving up a penalty with five minutes left kind of iced the game."
MSU Denver also suffered a tough 1-0 loss Friday at Westminster. The Roadrunners dropped to 8-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the RMAC.
Aaron Biggerstaff had two shots on goal for the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver returns home for its final two regular-season home games Friday against Fort Lewis at 1 p.m. and Sunday's 2:30 p.m. Senior Day game against Adams State.
"The positives are, that we can fix these things," Kirchhof said. "The mindset has to be that every moment matters. Every minute matters. Every run matters. We'll bounce back. It'll be fun to be home next weekend after this long road trip. We're looking for any and all support that we can get Friday and Sunday."
