ORLANDO, Fla. – MSU Denver's
Laolu Oke has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 team for men's basketball for the second consecutive season.
Oke, who carries a 3.60 cumulative grade point average while majoring in business management, is the reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and is a 14-time winner of the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week award, including eight times this season. He is a two-time Academic All-RMAC selection and was named to the All-RMAC first team last season.
The 6-foot-8 sophomore is fourth in NCAA Division II in rebounds per game (11.3), fourth in rebounds (260), sixth in field goal percentage (66.4), sixth in double-doubles (14), ninth in offensive rebounds per game (3.7), and 14th in defensive rebounds per game (7.6). In the RMAC in those categories, he ranks first, first, second, first, first and second, respectively. He is shooting and unreal 84.7 percent from the field (50 of 59) over the last seven games while averaging 16.3 points.
He set a school record by making all 12 of his field goal attempts (no Roadrunner had ever been perfect on more than nine attempts in a game, and Oke is one of two players to go 9-for-9) on Jan. 28 against Chadron State. Last season, he tied a school record with 20 rebounds in a game.
Oke ranks first in program history in rebounds per game (8.6) and field goal percentage (65.6), second in defensive rebound average (5.3), third in offensive rebound average (3.3), seventh in offensive rebounds (225), 10th in defensive rebounds (358) and 12th in rebounds (583).
He is one of five players named to the Academic All-District 6 team. District 6 includes players from the RMAC and Lone Star conferences.
