DENVER – It was a frigid opening day for baseball Saturday, and the guys from North Dakota earned a doubleheader sweep with victories of 14-7 and 8-6 over MSU Denver at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
The Roadrunners fell behind early in each game, giving up five runs in the first inning of the opener and five in the second inning of the nightcap.
"It was a tough day," MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain said. "We got beat in every aspect today. That falls squarely on my shoulders. I didn't have them ready to play. Tomorrow's a new day and we will need to play a lot better."
There were plenty of offensive highlights: All Americans
Bill Ralston (4-for-9, two homers) and
Chase Anderson (4-for-8, homer, three RBIs) started off strong. Transfer
Ross Smith homered in his first MSU Denver at-bat in the opener and true freshman
Cam Yuran homered in his collegiate debut as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning of the nightcap.
The series concludes with a single game Sunday at noon.
