@MSUDenverTennis: Roadrunners Breeze to Victories over Western New Mexico

Both teams post 7-0 wins

DENVER – Both MSU Denver's men's and women's tennis teams swept Western New Mexico 7-0 on Monday in duals at the Assembly Athletic Complex.

The 49th-ranked MSU Denver men improved to 6-1 for the season, while the women upped their mark to 5-4.

"Sweeping Western New Mexicp on both sides feels really good," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "It shows that we are on the right track."

Carlos Pinedo and Andy Caruana posted a 7-5 win at No. 2 to allow the Raodrunners' men to clinch the doubles point, then the Roadrunners won all six singles matches – through three went beyond two sets. Jeanloup Auzias won 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 1, David Kijak won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, and Caruana was a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) winner at No. 6.

"The guys maybe got a little fortunate with the doubles point," Graetz said. "We needed to raise our energy and I thought we responded well. Today was a really gutsy win for the men. I'm very proud."

The women cruised in getting the doubles point, winning all three matches while dropping a total of four games. The Roadrunners swept in singles while being pushed past two sets in only one match.

Ava Neuberger-Higby won 6-0 with Isabel Heras at No. 1 doubles and then posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Gala Castello teamed with Marie Cool to win 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, then won her No. 3 singles matchup 6-0, 6-2.

"The ladies took care of business today, and when we found ourselves in tough positions we controlled our emotions," Graetz said. "I'm happy with where the ladies are at."
