COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second consecutive season, MSU Denver's
Laolu Oke has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Year for men's basketball.
In addition to a second straight appearance on the All-RMAC first team, the defensive player of the year honor should come as no surprise since Oke was named the league's defensive player of the week nine times this season and 15 times overall in his career.
Two other Roadrunners,
Miles Gibson and
Tyrei Randall, have been named All-RMAC honorable mention.
Oke is MSU Denver's all-time leader in rebounds per game (8.9) and field goal percentage (65.4). This season he set single-season program records for double-doubles (18) and rebounds (337).
He is second in NCAA Division II in double-doubles and total rebounds, third in rebounds per game (11.6), sixth in field goal percentage (65.9), seventh in offensive rebounds per game (3.9), 14
th in defensive rebounds per game (7.7). He leads the RMAC in all those categories, with the exception of defensive rebounds per game, in which he ranks second. He's also fourth in the RMAC in steals (47) and tied for 11
th in blocked shots (21). He averaged 14.5 points per game.
Gibson averaged 13.1 points per game, third-best on the team, and was second among Roadrunners with 5.8 rebounds per game.
Randall averaged 12.5 points per game, and in league play led the RMAC in 3-point percentage at 45.0 (50 of 111).
