@MSUDenverTennis: No. 50 Roadrunners Cruise to Victory

Women show well despite losing to No. 16 Fresno Pacific (Calif.)

LA MIRADA, Calif. – The 50th-ranked MSU Denver men's tennis team improved to 8-1 on the season with a 6-1 victory Wednesday over Fresno Pacific (Calif.).

Meanwhile the Roadrunners' women's team lost to the 16th-ranked Fresno Pacific women 5-2 to fall to 5-6 for the season.

In the men's dual, Carlos Pinedo and Andy Caruana helped secure the doubles point with a 7-6 (5) win at No. 2. Then the Roadrunners rolled to victory in five of the six singles matches, with the only a defeat a three-set setback for Jack McDermott at No. 3.

Alejandro Jimenez moved up to No. 4 and secured his seventh straight win, with a 6-0, 6-2 decision. David Kijak was pushed beyond two sets at No. 5, but prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).

"The guys edged out Fresno Pacific in the doubles," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "It wasn't our best execution, but some days are like that. In singles we took care of business and kept our focus. Overall it was a positive day for the guys."

The MSU Denver women earned the doubles point with wins from Ava Neuburger-Higby/Isabel Heras at No. 1 and Lilly Stienemeier/Kayla Myburgh at No. 3, but only Neuburger-Higby, at No. 1, was able to secure a singles victory.

"I'm really proud of the ladies regardless of the result," Graetz said. "They continue to play great doubles and work together as a team. Singles needs some work, but it will take some time. I believe we will get there."

After facing Fresno Pacific on a neutral site, MSU Denver returns to the same courts Thursday to face host Biola (Calif.) at 2 p.m. MDT. The Biola women are ranked No. 10 in the country, while the Eagles' men are No. 49.
