DENVER – MSU Denver earned two more tennis victories Sunday, as the women swept Colorado College 7-0 and the men defeated the same school 5-2.
The Roadrunners' men improved to 10-3 despite playing without two regulars in singles.
Andy Caruana improved to 14-4 and won his eighth straight match, a 6-2, 6-3 verdict at No. 3.
Alejandro Jimenez moved up to No. 2 and won 6-0, 7-5 while improving to 11-3, and
Carlos Pinedo played at No. 1 and won 6-1, 6-3 to run his mark to 13-5.
"The guys were able to get the doubles point, and I thought we did a better job of getting free points off serve and return," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "Being efficient is important. Even though the score shows 5-2, I felt like we were in control from start to finish."
The women, who played without two starters Saturday, still played one short Sunday but nonetheless won their third dual in three days to improve to 8-8.
Isabel Heras (8-14) had the most impressive victory, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.
Kayla Myburgh (5-5) at No. 5 and
Monica Guarin (10-8) at No. 6 each won in super sets – Myburgh by 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) and Guarin by 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).
"The ladies came out strong in doubles and took care of business," Graetz said. "Some of the singles matches got a little too close for comfort, but we managed to pull out the win. We will take a 7-0 sweep any day."
