@MSUDenverWBB: Haave Adds Pair of International Recruits

Forwards fill needs on Roadrunners roster

DENVER – MSU Denver women's basketball coach Tanya Haave has added two players with international ties for the 2022-23 season in Lara Asgeirsdottir and Miza Gilberto.

Asgeirsdottir hails from Iceland, while Gilberto is originally from Mozambique. They'll join Mariana Silva Pereira of Portugal in the Roadrunner program.

"I am pleased to announce the signing of Lara and Miza," Haave said. "They both fill needs on our roster at the forward and post positions, respectively. We are excited to welcome them both to our Roadrunner family and we can hardly wait to start coaching them."

A capsule look at the recruits:

Lara Asgeirsdottir | F | 5-9 | Reykjavik, Iceland | Fjolbrautaskoli Sudurnesja
Coach Tanya Haave: "Lara is a "stretch 4" with 3-point shooting range and a strong understanding of the game. Lara is one of the best players in Iceland as she will be competing in the U20 European Championships this summer in Macedonia. Additionally, she is a true student-athlete, as she is entering MSU Denver with a 4.0 GPA.

In Iceland
  • Playing for Njardvik in the Iceland-Subway League in 2021-22, averaged 4.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 30 games while shooting 27.8 percent (22 of 79) from 3-point range.

Miza Gilberto | F | 6-0 | Maputo, Mozambique | Institute Tecnico De Mozambique | Arizona Western College
Coach Tanya Haave:  "Miza was a key player on one of the top junior college teams in the country, which made a quarterfinal appearance at the national tournament. As an athletic post player, Miza runs the floor well, is a solid rebounder and defender who finishes well inside."
