DENVER – A free kick with 2:37 to go in the game set up Regis for the only goal Thursday night as MSU Denver fell 1-0 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's soccer game.
Claire Faulkner lifted her shot just over the outstretched arms of MSU Denver goalkeeper
Kayla Caballero.
"It was a great shot from the top of the 18," MSU Denver coach
Kat Mertz said. "That's what players live for, and you give a player like that an opportunity … she hit a really good shot so you have to give her credit."
MSU Denver dropped to 5-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the RMAC.
Regis put six shots on goal to five for the Roadrunners. MSU Denver had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
"The first half they did a good job of pinning us in a bit, although we created some chances early," Mertz said. "In the second half, we made some adjustments and I thought we had a number of good opportunities.
"In this conference, the teams are good and no one is going to stop fighting. Every game is a championship game and you have to have that mindset."
The Roadrunners have a championship-level opponent coming to the Assembly Athletic Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m. as No. 17 Colorado School of Mines comes to the Roadrunners' home field for the first time since 2018.
"It's been a minute since we've played them at home," Mertz said. "I know our players and fans will be looking forward to playing a quality opponent and bouncing back.
"One game doesn't define you. You regroup and get ready for the next one. That's why we play the game."
