DENVER – Regis outscored MSU Denver 18-6 in the fourth quarter Saturday night to rally for a 63-60 victory in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball.
The loss snapped the Roadrunners' winning streak at three games as they fell to 7-9 overall and 5-5 in the RMAC. Regis is 11-5 overall and second in the RMAC at 8-2.
MSU Denver led 54-45 after three quarters, but shot just 14.3 percent from the field (2 of 14) in the final frame, including 0 of 4 from 3-point range.
"We just didn't execute on either end of the floor very well in the fourth quarter," MSU Denver coach
Tanya Haave said. "This is what Regis has been doing during their winning streak – people get ahead of them and they come back.
"We fought hard for three quarters even 3 ½ quarters, it was just that last four minutes. It was a learning experience for us. We've got to learn how to execute in these kinds of games."
The Roadrunners were just 4 of 23 for 17.4 percent from 3 for the game, with
Brooklynn Jones making 3 of 7 from distance.
Kendra Parra led the short-handed Roadrunners with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals, while Jones had nine points and five rebounds.
Miza Gilberto and
Mikylah Espinosa each had eight points, with Gilberto grabbing six rebounds.
Jaiden Galloway had seven points, six assists and two steals.
MSU Denver started strong, leading 21-13 after shooting 52.9 percent from the field in the first quarter.
MSU Denver returns to action Tuesday with a 5 p.m. home game against Nos. 9 and 7 Colorado School of Mines on United in Red Night at the Auraria Event Center.
