ALAMOSA, Colo. – Aidan Bates and
Matt Vogel each had a goal and an assist as the MSU Denver men's soccer team took care of business Friday with a 4-0 victory at Adams State.
The Roadrunners won their third straight game to improve to 6-7-2 overall and 4-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Adams State dropped to 0-13 and 0-7.
"It was a good performance," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "I liked how we started off the game. We were very aggressive and looking to try to put things on target and score goals. We were asking great questions to their backline."
Adan Perez scored the game's first goal, his fourth of the season and the 10
th of his career, at 12:33. After taking a pass from Bates, Perez fired from outside and right of the box into the upper left-hand corner.
"That was a great strike by Adan," Kirchhof said.
Then Bates scored his fourth goal of the season, and the 18
th of his career, from in front at 27:19. After a thrown-in,
Tanner Stevenson flicked the ball out of the air and over to Vogel, who tapped it over to Bates.
With 53 seconds left in the first half, Vogel made it 3-0.
Zack Williams drove from near the center line all the way into the box and passed it over to Vogel, who scored his first goal easily.
"Aidan's goal was a fantastic one," Kirchhof said. "That made it 2-0 and really put us on the front foot. And the goal right before half really helped push the momentum in our favor."
The Roadrunners added their final goal at 64:58, as
Parker Landry served a long pass into the box that
Jackson Vander Ven headed home. It was Vander Ven's second goal of the season, and the third of his career.
Perez and Vander Ven have scored in two straight games, while Bates has scored in two of the last three.
MSU Denver stays out west for a 1 p.m. game Sunday at Fort Lewis, which played another key game late Friday against Colorado School of Mines.
"It should be a great, playoff-type game," Kirchhof said. "We both could do well with a win to push us into the last weekend in a really good spot for the RMAC Tournament. I'm glad we took care of business today and now we want to play well at Fort Lewis."
