DENVER – No. 7 MSU Denver expected a challenging weekend starting Thursday night, and that's what they got from 12
th-ranked Regis.
The Rangers kept MSU Denver at bay most of the night in a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-19, 25-23) at the Auraria Event Center.
"It was a tough night," MSU Denver coach
Jenny Glenn said. "We just couldn't get in rhythm, and when we did, we shot ourselves in the foot with some easy errors. We let Regis be comfortable all night. They weren't playing perfect either, but their handled their errors better than we handled ours."
Regis hit just .094 in the first set, but MSU Denver hit -.025. Regis heated up in the second set .324 hitting, but the Roadrunners actually had a higher hitting percentage in the third set at .205 to the Rangers' .143.
Overall, MSU Denver hit .094, its second-lowest figure of the year.
Riley Anderson led MSU Denver with 12 kills, and
Rylee Hladky chipped in nine, with nine digs and two service aces.
Maddy Williams had six kills and a team-high three blocks (one solo). Setters
Amela Qershia (15) and
Delaney Eckhardt (13) combined for 28 assists, and libero
Abbie McCrimmon had a team-best nine digs.
MSU Denver dropped to 15-5 with its second straight loss.
Next up is 11
th-ranked Colorado Mesa at 4 p.m. Saturday. Mesa, which plays Regis at the Auraria Event Center on Friday at 6 p.m., recently defeated Regis. However, MSU Denver won at Colorado Mesa 3-1 last month.
"We don't have to wait long to get back on the court and continue to work through this," Glenn said.
