@MSUDenverWBB: Roadrunners Defeated by No. 24 Team in Division II

Young MSU Denver shows spurts, but needs more time to come together

DENTON, Texas – The learning process continues for the MSU Denver women's basketball team.

The youthful and inexperienced Roadrunners faced another nationally-ranked, experienced team – and one that has already played three more games than MSU Denver this season – on Saturday.

The results were somewhat predictable, but still somewhat valuable for the Roadrunners, as No. 24 host Texas Woman's cruised to a 66-36 victory.

"It was another learning experience for us," MSU Denver coach Tanya Haave said. "There's some growth going on. We're playing really good teams -- both of these teams have been playing together for three or four years, and we've played in real games together for two games. That's just where we are.

"There were spurts of good things, and we battled and competed well defensively. Offensively, our timing and just getting to know each other, we're not there enough for teams of this caliber. Yet."

The Roadrunners lost their season opener at the regional conference challenge on Friday against 19th-ranked Angelo State (Texas).

MSU Denver (0-2) was within 13-8 after Saturday's first quarter, but Texas Woman's (5-0) gradually pulled away.

Brianna Sealy led MSU Denver with eight points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Sealy, who was 4 for 5 from the field Saturday and finished the two-game event with averages of 7.0 points and 11.0 rebounds, was named to the all-tournament team.

"She was our most consistent player and our best rebounder," Haave said. "We've got to find a way to get her the ball more in good spots. We're still learning to trust one another, to know that when we're open we're going to get it, and that when we give it up we're going to get it back. That's just the process we're in right now."
