PITTSBURG, Kan. – No. 23 MSU Denver took its offensive production to another level Friday, scoring three touchdowns worth of runs in a 21-11 victory over Sioux Falls (S.D.).
"Our offense did a really nice job," MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain said. "Obviously we swung the bats well. We scored every inning but one, and we had the bases loaded in that inning. We took advantage of mistakes, too."
Colin Stone was 4-for-6 with two homers and five RBIs, while also rapping out four hits were
Tanner Garner (4-for-5, three RBIs) and
Cody Schultz (4-for-5, with four runs).
Ross Smith and
Caleb Albaugh were both 3-for-5 – Smith drove in four runs.
Gavin Kaiser was the most effective of MSU Denver's three pitchers, working two hitless innings, walking two and striking out three.
"We gave them too many opportunities with walks and errors and hit by pitches, just allowing innings to extend," Strain said. "That was frustrating, but then
Gavin Kaiser did a nice job coming in and giving us some big zeroes."
MSU Denver improved to 7-1. The Roadrunners play twice Saturday, against Sioux Falls at 11 a.m. MST and host Pittsburg State (Kan.) at 2 p.m. MST.
"It's a win, kind of an ugly game, but we'll take it," Strain said. "We're going to have to be better tomorrow."
