KEARNEY, Neb. – The MSU Denver men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory and the Roadrunners' women played a closer-than-the-score-indicates dual while losing 7-0 in Sunday matchups against Augustana (S.D.).
"I thought our men played a really solid match from start to finish," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "It would have been easy with our third tough match in two days to lose our focus, and I thought we did a good job keeping it."
Jeanloup Auzias won his third straight match at No. 1 singles for the men, defeating Henry Dornbusch 6-4, 6-3 to improve to 5-1 at No. 1 and 7-4 overall in 2022-23.
"JL had a great win against a solid player," Graetz said.
Carlos Pinedo was his No. 4 singles match in three sets, and the Roadrunners won all three doubles matches while improving to 4-2 for the season.
Against a perennial Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference power in the women's dual, MSU Denver nearly stole the doubles point as
Isabel Heras and
Kinsey Fields won 6-1 at No. 1 and
Hanna Haber and
Marie Cool were defeated just 6-4 at No. 2.
In singles, both Heras at No. 1 and Fields at No. 2 forced foes to three sets.
"I'm proud of our ladies," Graetz said. "Augustana is a very talented team and I thought we weren't that far away. The doubles point was tight, and we had some singles matches go the distance. They were better than us today, but I thought we competed hard."
