Denver – Jake Williams delivered a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give MSU Denver a 13-1 victory over UCCS on Sunday afternoon.
"It was a good day," said MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain. "We played well in all three phases of the game."
Jack Slominski took to the mound for the Roadrunners and threw five innings allowing only five hits and striking out four.
Brad Helton came on in relief of Slominski and gave up one run on two hits during his two innings.
"Jack (Slominski) got us off to a great start on the mound and Brad (Helton) finished off the last two innings," said Strain.
Williams led the way for the Roadrunners offensively going 2-for-3 for the game with two home runs and driving in a total of six runs while scoring three.
Tanner Garner and
Cam Yuran each had two doubles in the game.
After failing to reach base as a team in the first inning, the Roadrunners were able to score at least one run in each of the next six innings.
"We not only swung the bats well all day with 17 hits, but we executed when we had to with moving runners and did a really nice job with situational hitting," said Strain. "It was a well-rounded win."
MSU Denver will return to action on March 24-26 when the team will travel to Regis for a four-game series. The first game is slated to start at noon on Saturday at the Regis Baseball Field.
