EMPORIA, Kan. – The depth of the MSU Denver women's tennis team figured prominently Thursday in a 4-3 dual win at Emporia State (Kan.).
Meanwhile the Roadrunners' men dropped a 4-2 decision to Emporia State.
The MSU Denver improved to 5-3 by winning the doubles point and then winning at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 in singles.
Hanna Haber earned a 6-2, 7-6 decision at No. 4,
Kambra Roles won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 and
Monica Guarin won 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6.
The doubles wins came from
Isabel Heras and
Kinsey Fields at No. 1 and Haber and
Lilly Stienemeier at No. 3. Both duos won 6-2.
"The ladies found a way to win against a tough Emporia State team," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "They did a good job of making us uncomfortable, and we were in some ways fortunate to come away with the win."
The MSU Denver men dropped to 4-3 despite winning the doubles point.
Juho Kantola was the Roadrunners' only winner in singles, with a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2.
Winning in doubles were
Jeanloup Auzias and
Billy McDermott at No. 2 (6-1) as well as
Dayton Fisher and
Carlos Pinedo at No. 3 (6-3).
"I thought the men played a solid doubles point," Graetz said. "Singles didn't go the way that we would have hoped, but we have another opportunity tomorrow morning to change that."
MSU Denver plays duals Friday at 7:30 a.m. MST at Rockhurst (Mo.).
