DENVER – MSU Denver was in position to sweep its series at Regis, but couldn't quite close the door.
Regis scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a three-run lead Saturday, then survived the Roadrunners' ninth-inning rally in a 14-13 decision.
"It's hard to beat a team four games in a row," MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain said. "You've got to do a lot of things right to sweep someone."
MSU Denver dropped to 22-8 overall and 7-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while Regis improved to 13-13 and 4-4.
Colin Stone,
Jake Williams and
Tanner Garner all had three hits for MSU Denver and Stone drove in four, including a sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth that was the game's final run. Williams drove in three and Garner also had an RBI, giving him 12 in the four-game series.
MSU Denver outscored Regis 75-51 in the wild series.
"I'm happy with how the offense battled back and continued to fight, and never gave in all weekend," Strain said. "Unfortunately we didn't make a couple of plays, and we had chances to add some more runs but we couldn't get the big hit – even though we hit some balls hard. We swung the bats as well today as we did the first two days of the series."
