@MSUDenverTennis: No. 35 Roadrunners Win 10th Straight Dual to Close Regular Season

Women fall to Mavericks in another close 4-3 decision

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The 35th-ranked MSU Denver men won their 10th consecutive dual while the Roadrunners' women suffered a close 4-3 defeat Saturday as the teams wrapped up the regular season at Colorado Mesa.

The men won 5-2 to improve to 14-3 overall and 12-3 against Division II opponents. MSU Denver has four Division II road wins this season, one fewer than the other teams in the Pacific West Conference's top six combined.

MSU Denver plays next week at the PacWest Tournament in Surprise, Ariz.

No. 1 player Jeanloup Auzias, No. 2 Juho Kantola, No. 3 Alejandro Jimenez and No. 5 Billy McDermott were all winners in singles, while No. 4 Stephen Kossifas and No. 6 David Kijak lost in super sets.

"The men finished the regular season strong," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "It is always nice to get a win against Mesa."

The women suffered a second 4-3 second back in two weeks against Mesa, this time falling only after Kambra Roles had to default at No. 5.

Isabel Heras (No. 1), Lilly Stienemeier (No. 4) and Monica Guarin (No. 6) all won their singles matches.

"The ladies struggled during the doubles point, but credit to Mesa," Graetz said. "We were a little unfortunate in singles but that's how it goes sometimes. We're looking forward to Surprise."
