Title IX Series: Johnston One of Golf Program's Best

2016 RMAC Player of the Year led team to two conference crowns

DENVER – MSU Denver has for decades been a leader in providing equal opportunities for women in intercollegiate athletics.

Today is the 42nd installment of a 52-part tribute by Roadrunners Athletics to pioneers and leaders in intercollegiate athletics at MSU Denver. The series coincides with the passage of Title IX.

Each Thursday, a key female figure in Roadrunners athletics history will be recognized.

Today, golfer Allie Johnston is featured.

Johnston was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Player of the Year in 2016 after earning All-RMAC first team honors in 2015, leading the Roadrunners to the RMAC championship both seasons. She ranks second in program history in scoring average (77.1), and third in rounds under 80 (30). Her single-season bests of a 75.9 stroke average and 19 rounds under 80 are also the second-best in program history.

She was named to the Academic All-District 1st team (2015) and to the WGCA All-America Scholar Team (2016), was RMAC Scholar-Athlete (2016), and was named to the Academic All-RMAC first time in 2015 and to the Academic All-RMAC honor roll in 2016.

Title IX, the groundbreaking law prohibiting sex-based discrimination at schools that receive funding from the federal government, went into effect just over 50 years ago – on June 23, 1972.
