DENVER – MSU Denver completed its two-game men's soccer road trip to California on Sunday with a 2-1 loss at San Francisco State.
"It's a disappointing result because we played well today, we passed it well, we defended well, we executed the game plan and a lot of phases as well, but we keep making bad mistakes at the back and leaving guys free in the box," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "And unfortunately we keep getting punished."
San Francisco State scored the game's first goal at 17:25, but MSU Denver leveled it just 3:12 into the second half on a header by
Andres Arcila Saenz off a
Jonas Votaw corner kick.
Just 120 seconds later, though, San Francisco State went back in front with another goal.
"We have to communicate better, and start organizing better,' Kirchoff said. "And the want from each individual has to be more, and has to better for us to get out of this hole. We're giving up too many goals too many times off not that many chances."
MSU Denver had advantages of 10 shots to seven and six shots to four on goal.
The Roadrunners, 1-3-2, have two non-conference games against conference opponents this week, playing Friday at 1 p.m. at South Dakota Mines before returning to the Assembly Athletic Complex for a 1 p.m. game Sunday against Fort Lewis.
