AUSTIN, Texas – The MSU Denver women's soccer team played to a second straight 0-0 tie on Sunday, this time remaining deadlocked until the end in a matchup at St. Edward's (Texas).
"It was good," MSU Denver coach
Kat Mertz said. "We grew a lot and matured today. We've been talking about being consistent for 90 minutes.
"We started slow, and give St. Edward's credit for being all over us, but we made some tactical adjustments and started to play our style of soccer."
The Roadrunners had an 11-0 advantage in shots in the second half, and finished with three shots on goal and three others that hit the cross bar.
"We had multiple chances, and once we figure that first goal out, it's going to be exciting to watch on the attacking side," Mertz said. "We have a lot of young players, and they are very excited and hungry."
Goalkeeper
Maddie Reinebold made her first start and had two saves in a shutout.
Tessa Killmon had two shots on goal, and
Elly Peterson added the other.
"Tessa, Isa (Durkin), Madrid (Mack) and
Elly Peterson all played really well," Mertz said. "Our backs were solid. (Center backs) Emily (Sirois) and Maddy (Rueter) are good.
"We've always been able to produce a really stingy defense, and now we have to find a way to utilize the strengths of our new players. We learned a lot about ourselves in the final third today."
