RAPID CITY, S.D. – MSU Denver will travel back from South Dakota with another RMAC win, extending their unbeaten streak to four games, thanks to last-minute heroics from midfielder Luke Bone, as the Roadrunners defeated the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers 2-1.
MSU Denver went down 0-1 early in first half after Hardrocker forward, Jayden Roque battled with defenders and slid the ball into the bottom left corner of the Roadrunners' goal.
The Roadrunners tied the game 1-1 off of a Hardrockers own goal in the 62nd minute, thanks to a perfectly placed cross from midfielder Charlie Matsumoto. Keeping their foot on the gas, the Roadrunners recorded a total of 18 shots (9 on goal), but struggled to find the back of the net.
As they say, though, it ain't over 'til it's over.
As the game reached the final minutes of play, the Roadrunners didn't let up. After receiving a pass from Robert Sumner out wide, Charlie Matsumoto took the shot but was blocked by Hardrocker defenders. Right where he needed to be, Luke Bone picked up the deflection and put the ball in the back of the net in the 88th minute to give the Roadrunners the eventual 2-1 victory.
The Hardrockers played a man down for the last 13 minutes of the match after goal-scorer Jayden Roque was assessed a red card and sent off.
The Roadrunners (5-5-3 overall, 2-1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) will return back to Denver this weekend for a 1 p.m. Sunday game at Regis.
