DENVER – The No. 2 Metropolitan State University of Dener volleyball team swept South Dakota Mines 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to move to 15-1 overall and 7-0 in the RMAC.
Senior setter
Delaney Eckhardt led the Roadrunners with strong serving and fantastic ball distribution. Eckhardt finished the match with six service aces as well as a match-high 25 assists.
"Delaney had a great night serving," said Head Coach
Jenny Glenn. "We disrupted their offense with how strong we served. I thought our pin attackers had a really nice night and we scored at a high percentage."
Senior
Riley Anderson and junior
Annika Helf tied for a match-high 12 kills in the contest. Sophomore
Alivia Huxoll led the Roadrunners with a hitting percentage of .583.
The Roadrunners got off to a slow start in the first set, falling behind 7-2 early. After a service error by the Hardrockers, MSU Denver scored nine of the next 11 points to take a 12-9 lead. The Roadrunners would not trail again in the set winning 25-20.
The second set saw MSU Denver jump out to an early lead 7-2 and never look back. Consecutive aces from Eckhardt put the Roadrunners up 15-8. Once again, MSU Denver would trade points down the stretch and close out the set 25-20.
The final set of the match was a back-and-forth affair early on. MSU Denver would go on a 6-1 run in the middle of the set including kills from Anderson and Huxoll as well as another ace from Eckhardt making the score 12-9. The Roadrunners scored six of the final eight points in the match to close out the victory 25-19.
Glenn added," It doesn't really matter how you start a match, it is how you finish. When the score was in the 20's, we were able to push the pedal and finish the set."
The victory extends the MSU Denver win-streak to ten games. The Roadrunners have currently won 13 consecutive regular season RMAC matches dating back to October 28 of last year.
The Roadrunners will travel to Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday, October 22 for an RMAC match at 7 p.m.
