MSU Denver Defeats Colorado Christian 2-0 To Secure A Spot In RMAC Tournament

LAKEWOOD, COLO. – The MSU Denver men's soccer team defeated Colorado Christian 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to clinch a spot in the RMAC Tournament.

"I'm very proud of how we fought for the result today," said Head Coach Nick Kirchhof.  "It was a tough physical battle, and we competed very well on the defensive side of the ball.

Dallas Baer scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season and tallied his third assist of the season in the Roadrunners victory.  Zack Williams also notched a goal in the match and Noah Hannula picked up an assist.

Kirchhof said, "We scored to great goals from Zack and Dallas working to get behind the defense and get in the box.  Phillie was fantastic today playing all 90 minutes and being everywhere."

Colorado Christian started applying pressure early to the MSU Denver defense taking two shots on goal in the opening two minutes with Nick McNeil saving both attempts.  McNeil would save another shot in the 14th minute.  He would finish with a total of five saves in the contest including two more in the second half.

MSU Denver would turn up their offensive pressure halfway into the opening half.  The Roadrunners would start firing shots of their own.  Only one of the four shots would be on target.  The shot from Andres Arcila Saenz's shot was saved by the Cougars as the half would to a close.

The Roadrunners came out much more aggressive in the second half.  Williams scored the opening goal of the match off of the Baer assist only six minutes into the second half.  Colorado Christian would try to answer only to find McNeil making another save in goal.

Following two off-target shots by Jackson Vander Ven, Baer would get his first goal of the game off of the Hannula assist.  MSU Denver's defense would carry the Roadrunners the rest of the way allowing only three shots in the final 15 minutes of the match.

"Today showed we can win in a different way and that's important to keep moving forward in the conference tournament," added Kirchhof.

The victory moves the Roadrunners to 7-7-3 overall and 4-3-2 in RMAC play.

MSU Denver will face Colorado School of Mines on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Golden, Colo.  A Roadrunners win will secure them the No. 5 seed in the RMAC Tournament.  Should the result of the match end in a tie or a loss, MSU Denver will be the No. 6 seed.
