DENVER – The MSU Denver women's basketball team dropped to 1-2 in conference play following a 78-70 loss to Western Colorado on Thursday night.

The Roadrunners got off to a slow start offensively, shooting only 25.7 percent from the field in the first half, but promptly picked things up in the second. The team's shooting percentage skyrocketed to 61 percent in the second half, but they struggled to get stops on the defensive end.

"I think we made a really good comeback in the second half, we scored better in the second half, we just couldn't get stops and we really needed them," said head coach Tanya Haave.

Sophomore Laci Roffle led the Roadrunners in scoring after putting up a career-high 25 points, shooting 5-6 from the field, 3-4 from the 3-point line, and a perfect 12-12 from the charity stripe.

"My shot looked good today," said Roffle. "It's in the air really, I just get on the court and see how I'm feeling, and today I felt good."

While the score may not reflect it, the Roadrunners took away many positives from the game.

"There's a lot of really positive things that I saw, just a little bit better defensively and we'll be there," said Haave. "I think we dug ourselves too big of a hole in that first half, so we've got to come out better in the first half, we need to be more aggressive."

"It's a new game on Saturday, and we're excited to play Westminster," said Roffle.

The Roadrunners (1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, 2-7 overall) will play Westminster at home on Saturday, December 14, for the team's final home game of 2024. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
