@MSUDenverMBB: Roadrunners' Big Second Half Carries Squad to 90-79 Victory

MSU Denver outscores Adams State 52-32 in the second half

ALAMOSA, Colo – Despite nine first-half three pointers by the Grizzlies, the Roadrunners were able to overcome Adams State's hot shooting and secure the 90-79 win.

The victory improves MSU Denver's record to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. ASU falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC.

The Grizzlies jumped out to an early 12-4 lead, hitting on a couple of three-point shots and also went four-of-five from the free throw line.

The lead got to as high as 19 for the home team, as ASU hit on 9-of-19 from beyond the arc in the first half. Five different players hit from long range.

MSU Denver was able to chip away at the lead thanks to sophomore Logan Threatt and senior Caleb McGill, who combined for 22 first half points. The Roadrunners found themselves down just 47-38 at the break. Free throws also helped the Red and Blue, as the team hit 14-of-18.

The three-point shot didn't continue to fall for the Grizzlies, as they only dropped in five in the second half on 14 attempts.

The Roadrunners, however, were only hitting their stride at the end of the first half exploding for 52 second-half points to come out with the win. They would hit 57 percent in the final 20 minutes to secure their second conference win on the season.

It was a tie game at 60 before MSU Denver had back-to-back-to-back dunks by McGill and senior Brayden Carter. McGill finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while fellow senior Carter had four second half dunks and came away with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Threatt was also huge down the stretch for the Red and Blue hitting key baskets and finishing with 18 points and four rebounds.

A couple of those Carter dunks came in transition as MSU Denver was able to convert 17 ASU turnovers into 19 points, including one from Carter that sealed the victory.

Head coach Dan Ficke and his squad will return to the Mile High City next week to continue RMAC play. They'll first host Western Colorado on Thursday night at 8 p.m., before taking on Westminster on Saturday afternoon.
