GREENSBORO, N.C. – MSU Denver outfielder
Jesse Velders has been named to the All-South Central Region baseball team by the American Baseball Coaches Association, while teammates
Zach Schuler (designated hitter) and
Tyler Tobey (second base) netted second-team recognition.
Velders, who also earned NCBWA and D2CCA All-South Central Region first team as well as All-RMAC first team honors in his first season with the Roadrunners, batted .460 with 10 homers, 57 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He leads the region in batting, slugging percentage (.860), on-base percentage (.562) and doubles (22), and in Division II, he ranks fifth, fourth, fourth and 18th, respectively. in those categories. He's also fifth nationally in doubles per game (0.48) and 20
th in runs per game (1.33). Additionally, Velders ranks in the RMAC's top nine in hits (69), hits per game (1.50), runs (61), runs per game (1.33), RBIs, RBIs per game (1.24), total bases (129), toughest-to-strike out and triples (four). On MSU Denver's single-season list, he has the second-best on-base percentage, third-best slugging percentage, and fourth-best batting average. He batted .500 (64-for-128) after Feb. 18.
Schuler, who was named to the 2023 All-America first team by two organizations (ABCA, NCBWA) and the second team by the other (D2CCA) at designated hitter, was a 2024 NCBWA Pre-Season All-America and has already earned 2024 All-South Central Region first-team honors from the NCBWA and D2CCA after batting .364 with 20 homers and 71 RBIs. He was a 2023 All-South Central Region first team selection by all three organizations and he is a two-time All-RMAC first team honoree who was on the league's honorable mention list in 2022. The NCBWA and D2Insider National Player of the Week on April 10, he was a four-time RMAC Player of the Week, including twice in 2024. He finished his career as the program's all-time leader with 49 homers.
In 2024, Schuler ranks seventh in Division II in home runs per game (0.41), 12th in homers, ninth in RBIs per game (1.45), 16th in slugging (.795) and 21
st in RBIs. He also ranks in the RMAC top 10 in on-base percentage (.484), total bases (140), walks (35) and walks per game (0.71). Schuler is second in program history in career total bases (400), third in RBIs (186), fourth in slugging (.731), eighth in runs (170), tied for ninth in hits (201), and tied for ninth in doubles (46). He was a career .367 hitter. In career rankings among active Division II players, Schuler is ninth in homers, 13th in slugging and 16th in RBIs and 25
th in total bases.
Tobey earned All-RMAC second team honors in his first season with the Roadrunners while batting .370 with three homers, 32 RBIs and six stolen bases. He is tied for the Division II lead with 0.50 doubles per game while ranking fourth in the RMAC and 24
th in the country with 21 doubles. He ranked 13
th in the RMAC in batting and 18
th in slugging percentage. After taking control of the starting job in March, Tobey batted .440 in league play with a 1.221 OPS (.730 slugging percentage, .491 on-base percentage), ranking 10
th in the league in hitting and tied for second in doubles (16).
