@msudenverMSOC: Liston scores late goal to give Roadrunners 2-1 win on Senior Day

Senior O'Toole scores first goal of the game against former Regis team

DENVER, Colo – The Roadrunners scored the go-ahead goal in the 77th minute to defeat cross-town rival Regis University 2-1 at home.

The win improves MSU Denver's record to 6-2-5 overall with a 4-0-1 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Rangers fall to 4-5-3 overall with a 2-2-1 record in conference play.

It was senior day for 11 Roadrunners and one of them scored the opening goal in the 12th minute. Brendan O'Toole, who played two seasons with Regis, found an errant pass at the top of the box, took a touch and ripped one past the Ranger goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.

The visiting Rangers outshot the home team 5-2 in the first 45 minutes, but the second half belonged to MSU Denver. They fired 14 shots to Regis' 3 and led in the corner kick category 7-1.

But the Rangers found the game-tying goal in the 49th minute by Elias Taubo, who knocked in a penalty kick after the Roadrunners committed a foul in Regis' box.

Another foul took place in the box, but this time it was the Rangers who took down MSU Denver and Riley Liston knocked in the penalty kick to put his team up for good.

The three points puts the Roadrunners at 13, which is just two behind UC-Colorado Springs for first place in the RMAC standings. They have won three games in a row and will take on fourth place CSU Pueblo and first place UC-Colorado Springs next week with both games coming on the road.
