DENVER — MSU Denver men's soccer closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Wednesday evening, defeating Colorado Christian 3–0 at The Assembly Athletic Complex to clinch the No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament and earn a bye in the quarterfinal round.
The Roadrunners improved to 9-4-5 overall and 7-2-1 in RMAC play, while Colorado Christian finished its season 2-13-3 overall and 2-6-2 in conference. The win also secured MSU Denver's best regular-season and conference record since 2019, when the team went 10-7-1 overall and 8-5-1 in RMAC play, and marked the program's highest RMAC finish since placing third in 2012.
"I'm glad the boys fought all the way through conference," head coach Nick Kirchhof said. "I thought we were one of the more consistent teams throughout the year and I think it shows the consistency we may have not had in the past was there and we have had great effort 95 percent of the time, and the other five percent we just need to clean up."
Bryan Vazquez opened the scoring in the 39th minute with his first career goal as a Roadrunner, which also proved to be the game-winning goal, assisted by Adan Perez. In the second half, Max Farnum extended the lead in the 59th minute with his fourth goal of the season, ranking him second on the team.
"I thought Bryan [Vazquez] worked really hard today, he competed and he was a problem," Kirchhof stated postgame.
Dallas Baer added insurance in the 73rd minute, scoring his third goal of the year and finding the net for the second straight match.
Goalkeeper Nick McNeil earned the clean sheet, making one save as MSU Denver's defense held Colorado Christian to just six total shots. The win also extended the Roadrunners' excellent record against the Cougars to 25-2 all-time, including a 13-0 mark at home and six straight victories in the series.
With the regular season complete, MSU Denver will turn its focus to the postseason. The Roadrunners will host their RMAC semifinal match next Wednesday at home, with the opponent to be determined Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of the first-round games.
