EDMOND, Okla – The Roadrunners fall 11-2 to Pittsburg State in the final game of the First Pitch Invitational.
The loss drops MSU Denver's record to 1-2, while the Gorillas finished the weekend with a 3-0 record.
Pittsburg State's starting pitcher Kolby Dougan kept the Roadrunners off balanced for five innings, giving up one run and striking out 12. MSU Denver struck out 18 times in the nine-inning affair and only managed two runs on six hits.
Erubiel Ortiz was the only Roadrunner to have multiple hits in the game, while also drawing a walk and driving in a run.
Riley Roskopf got the start for MSU Denver and got through the first inning without giving up a run. But the Gorillas got to the junior pitcher for four runs in the second inning, although only one of those were earned after Roskopf was tagged for a throwing error. He finished the day going 4.1 innings pitched with seven runs allowed with only three of those being earned and striking out four.
The Roadrunners will remain on the road in Oklahoma next week as they'll battle Oklahoma Baptist for a four-game set in Shawnee.
