AUSTIN, Texas – The Roadrunners split their doubleheader with St. Edward's on Thursday to start their Texas road trip.
GAME ONE:
Starting pitcher
Cheyenne Prieto won her second game of the 2025 season after holding the Hilltoppers to zero runs on one hit in three innings of work.
The Roadrunners scored six runs through the first three innings, which included a two-run home run by
Miki Berg in the third inning. It was Berg's first home run of the season and the sixth in her Roadrunners career.
Janessa Esquibel put MSU Denver up 6-0 in the third inning with a two-run single allowing
Katie Maney and
Adriana Bueno to score. The junior transfer is off to a great start for the Roadrunners hitting .385 through six games and is second on the team in runs scored with seven.
Natalie Romero finished off the final four innings in relief, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three batters. The sophomore hurler has a stellar 1.27 ERA in three appearance this season and leads the pitching staff in strikeouts with seven.
MSU Denver ran wild on the base paths stealing a season-high six bases, which included one by
Hannah DiFabio, who ties former teammate
Shelby Robb with 57 career stolen bases.
GAME TWO:
The Roadrunners dropped their first game of the season, falling to St. Edward's 8-0 in five innings.
Jenna Medhus struggled from the circle giving up five earned runs in 0.1 inning pitched, while Sam Mader battled in relief allowing three earned runs and five walks in 3.2 innings.
The offense could not find an answer to Hilltoppers' starting pitcher Lisette Urquidez, who went the full five innings and gave up just one base hit, while striking out two for her first win of the season.
The Roadrunners will next head to San Antonio tomorrow to take on St. Mary's for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. mountain time.
