@MSUDenverSB: Roadrunners Split Doubleheader with UCCS

DENVER — The MSU Denver Roadrunners split Friday's doubleheader with the UCCS Mountain Lions, winning game one 11-3 in six innings but dropped the second contest by a score of 8-2.

The Roadrunners are now 38-12 overall and 33-8 in the RMAC. They sit in second place in the conference standings with two regular season games remaining.

MSU Denver's ace Natalie Romero notched the win in the first contest, and improves to 18-3 on the campaign. She went six innings allowing just three runs while striking out four.

Adriana Bueno led the offense with three hits while also knocking in three runs. She had a two-RBI single in the sixth to clinch the game for the Roadrunners.

Miki Berg was also stellar at the plate going 2-for-3 with three runs, and two RBIs.

It was a tough go for MSU Denver in game two, as they could only string together six hits as a team.

Bueno and Jaiden Geist logged multi-hit games, each going 2-for-3 in the loss.

GAME ONE (MSU Denver 11-3)
UCCS grabbed one run in the top half of the first with a pair of hits for an early lead.

After going down on strikes in the first two at-bats Geist belted a solo shot to deep center to tie the game at one. Berg put the Roadrunners out in front a few batters later with a two-run shot.

A few base hits down the foul lines for the Mountain Lions tied the game at the three at the end of the top half of the second frame.

A critical bases-loaded two out error by UCCS brought home three Roadrunner runs for a 6-3 lead after two full innings.

Katie Maney slapped an RBI triple into the gap in the fourth inning to put her team up 7-3.

An Adriana Bueno single up the middle in the fifth scored Miki Berg for an 8-3 lead for MSU Denver.

Geist extended the lease to six with an RBI single of her own in the sixth inning. Bueno ended the game via run rule with a two-RBI single with the bases loaded for an 11-3 Roadrunners win.

GAME TWO (UCCS 8-2)
Just like game one UCCS got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. They tripled the next at-bat to go up 2-0 early in this one.

After a quiet three innings of offense for MSU Denver, Berg broke open the scoring with a towering solo shot to cut the deficit to two runs in the fourth frame.

A six hit inning in the fifth for the Mountain Lions gave them an 8-1 lead going into the bottom half of the fifth.

The Roadrunners nabbed one run back in the bottom half thanks to a UCCS error.

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader against UCCS, starting at Noon MT.
