DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The No. 6 ranked MSU Denver volleyball team capped off a perfect day at the ICI Center with back-to-back victories, taking down Sioux Falls in four sets before sweeping Montevallo to improve to 4-0 on the season.
The Roadrunners combined efficient offense with steady defense throughout the doubleheader, hitting over .340 as a team across both matches while holding their opponents well under .300.
VS. SIOUX FALLS
MSU Denver's balanced attack and efficient hitting proved decisive, finishing with a .341 team hitting percentage compared to Sioux Falls' .276.
Megan Hagar led the way with a career-high 16 kills on an impressive .394 hitting, while also adding three service aces and 10 digs for 19 points.
Annika Helf chipped in 13 kills and 10 digs, while Kryssa Moerman was nearly unstoppable with 10 kills on .667 hitting and four total blocks.
Karyna Werley added nine kills and nine digs, and Alyssa Boyte hit .500 with seven kills and four block assists.
Setter GabriElle Brewer directed the offense with 28 assists, while Karyna Werley contributed 21 assists to keep the attack balanced. Defensively, Mia Accomazzo anchored the back row with a team-high 12 digs.
MSU Denver started fast, hitting .455 in the opening set to take control. After holding off Sioux Falls in set two, the Cougars responded in the third behind strong play from Aubrey Gates (15 kills). But the Roadrunners closed the door in set four with a dominant offensive showing, hitting .440 to seal the match.
VS. MONTEVALLO
The Roadrunners hit a stellar .348 as a team, while holding Montevallo to just .042.
Kryssa Moerman was perfect at the net, finishing with nine kills on nine swings (.1.000) and adding three block assists for a match-high 10.5 points. Megan Hagar and Alivia Huxoll chipped in seven kills apiece, with Hagar adding an ace and six digs.
Werley was everywhere, contributing five kills on .714 hitting, 17 assists, three aces, and six digs.
Brewer dished out 17 assists and added a kill, while Annika Helf tallied four kills, seven digs, and two service aces. Defensively, libero Mia Accomazzo led the back row with 11 digs, and Alyssa Boyte stuffed the middle with four block assists to go along with four kills.
The Roadrunners came out sharp, hitting .424 in the opening set before cruising through sets two and three to close out the Falcons.
With the victory, MSU Denver stays unbeaten at 4-0, wrapping up an impressive weekend in Florida.
The Red and Blue will now return home next weekend for their annual Colorado Premier Challenge tournament. They will play on Friday at 2 p.m. against Wayne State.
