@MSUDenverWBB: Johnson's Career Game isn't Enough for the Roadrunners

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— MSU Denver women's basketball fell on the road Saturday afternoon, dropping a 72–55 decision to the UCCS Mountain Lions at the Gallogly Event Center. The Roadrunners move to 5–11 overall on the season and 3-5 in RMAC play.

MSU Denver briefly grabbed the early momentum, scoring the game's first basket and holding a short-lived lead in the opening minutes. UCCS responded with defensive pressure and transition scoring to take a 15–9 advantage after the first quarter. The Roadrunners found a rhythm in the second, cutting into the deficit behind efficient perimeter shooting and strong work on the glass, but the Mountain Lions carried a 32–27 lead into halftime.

The third quarter proved pivotal. MSU Denver battled to stay within striking distance, highlighted by timely three-pointers and second-chance points, but UCCS stretched the margin late in the period and entered the fourth ahead 51–44. The hosts then opened the final quarter with an extended run, pushing the lead into double digits and sealing the outcome.

Despite the result, several Roadrunners delivered standout performances. Madi Johnson turned in a career afternoon, scoring a career-high 15 points while knocking down all five of her three-point attempts. She added five steals, consistently sparking MSU Denver on both ends of the floor.

Jadyn Watts recorded a strong double-double, leading the team with 11 rebounds while scoring 12 points, anchoring the Roadrunners in the paint. Mikylah Espinosa added a well-rounded effort with 11 points and a season-high eight rebounds, providing steady production throughout her minutes.

MSU Denver shot efficiently from beyond the arc, finishing 8-for-18 (44.4%), and outscored UCCS in bench points, but turnovers and points in the paint ultimately swung the game in the Mountain Lions' favor.

The Roadrunners will look to regroup as they continue conference play, aiming to build on the individual performances and stretch shooting displayed in Saturday's contest.
