ALAMOSA, Colo. – Freshman Cassidy Gottesman scored her first career goal, and MSU Denver women's soccer snapped a five-match losing streak with a 1-0 road victory over Adams State on Thursday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (3-8-4, 2-6-1 RMAC) broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute when Gottesman found the back of the net at 60:30. The freshman midfielder delivered the decisive goal to give MSU Denver the lead, and the Roadrunners held on for the shutout victory.
After a scoreless first half, MSU Denver continued to generate opportunities before Gottesman's breakthrough. The Roadrunners finished with 11 shots, putting seven on goal, while Adams State recorded 17 shots and 10 on target.
Goalkeeper Morgan Shirley played a crucial role in preserving the lead, recording a career-high 10 saves across 90 minutes to earn the shutout. Adams State applied pressure throughout the second half, particularly late in the match, but Shirley and the Roadrunners' defense kept the Grizzlies off the scoreboard.
Adams State finished with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks, including three in the second half. However, MSU Denver's defensive effort and Shirley's performance ensured the Roadrunners left Alamosa with the victory.
The win moves MSU Denver to 2-6-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play and provides a much-needed boost as the Roadrunners continue their push to get back into the RMAC Tournament picture.
