TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 23-ranked MSU Denver Roadrunners baseball continued its strong start to the 2026 campaign Saturday afternoon, earning a 4–3 victory over Washburn at Steve Anson Stadium.
With the win, MSU Denver improves to 9-1 overall, while Washburn falls to 2-4 on the season. The Roadrunners will wrap up the weekend slate against Emporia State tomorrow.
Right-hander Brayden McCollough earned the win to move to 2-0 on the year, delivering six strong innings. He allowed just two earned runs on three hits, worked through six walks, and struck out eight in a gritty 109-pitch outing.
Out of the bullpen, Carter Swan shut the door for his second save of the season, tossing two innings of one-hit baseball and striking out five. Swan stranded multiple baserunners in the eighth before striking out the side in the ninth to secure the 4-3 win.
After falling behind 2-1 in the fifth, MSU Denver responded with a decisive three-run sixth inning.
Marques Abulhosn—who saw his nine-game hitting streak come to an end—sparked the rally by reaching base via hit-by-pitch. He has now reached base in all 10 games to begin the season. Brooks Rasmussen followed with a bunt single, extending his on-base streak to nine consecutive games.
Following an RBI fielder's choice from Erubiel Ortiz that tied the game, Lathan Buzard delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon—a clutch two-RBI double to left field that plated two and gave MSU Denver a 4-2 advantage it would not relinquish.
The Roadrunners were limited to five hits but made them count.
- Royce Vandine was the lone Roadrunner with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double.
- Noah Wicks reached base twice with two walks.
- Michael Deitz delivered in a pinch-hit opportunity, going 1-for-1, swiping a base, and advancing to third on an error in the ninth.
- Abulhosn reached base twice (HBP, walk) at the top of the lineup.
Washburn threatened in the eighth, capitalizing on an error to trim the lead to 4-3, but Swan's strikeout-heavy finish sealed the victory.
The Roadrunners will look to keep the momentum rolling tomorrow as they return to the diamond against Emporia State.
