DENVER – The MSU Denver Roadrunners extended their winning streak to eight games Sunday, sweeping Fort Lewis College in a conference doubleheader to improve to 9-3 on the season. After starting the year 1-3, the Roadrunners have surged with eight straight victories.
Behind explosive offense in the opener and a game-breaking sixth inning in game two, MSU Denver rolled to wins of 12-2 and 7-3.
Game One (W, 12-2)
The Roadrunners wasted no time setting the tone in the first game of the day.
After Natalie Romero worked around early traffic in the circle, MSU Denver's offense erupted in the bottom of the first. Victoria Pearson drew a leadoff walk before Mackenzie Pearson belted a two-run homer to left, driving in her sister for the game's first runs. Just two batters later, Cheyenne Prieto launched her fourth homer of the season to center, quickly pushing the lead to 3-0.
The second inning turned the contest into a runaway.
Following a Neila Fee double and a pair of free passes, Mackenzie Pearson crushed a grand slam to left-center for her second homer of the game, blowing the score open to 7-0. The seven RBIs by Pearson marked the most by a Roadrunner since Katie Maney drove in seven against Adams State during the 2024 season.
MSU Denver kept applying pressure in the third and fourth innings, capitalizing on walks and timely hits. Victoria Pearson reached base three times via walk and scored three runs from the top of the lineup, while Fee finished 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored.
Romero earned her third win of the season — and second of the weekend — tossing five innings while allowing two runs on seven hits. She worked efficiently through the first four frames before Fort Lewis scratched across a pair in the fifth, but by then the Roadrunners had built a commanding lead to secure their seventh straight victory.
Game Two (W, 7-3)
The second contest featured far more drama before MSU Denver delivered a decisive blow late.
Trailing 3-1 entering the sixth inning, the Roadrunners flipped the game on its head with a six-run outburst that proved to be the turning point of the afternoon.
Brooklynn Enny ignited the rally with her first home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Moments later, pinch hitter Zoe Stanzyk delivered one of the most electrifying plays of the weekend — an inside-the-park home run after the Fort Lewis right fielder dove and missed, allowing Stanzyk to race all the way around and give MSU Denver a 4-3 lead.
The momentum continued to build. Cheyenne Prieto lined an RBI single to extend the advantage to 6-3, and Enny followed with another RBI to cap the six-run frame and make it 7-3. The explosive inning turned a tight contest into a firm Roadrunner lead.
Prieto extended her hitting streak to 12 games, while Victoria Pearson has now reached base in all 12 contests this season. Fee added another strong performance at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In the circle, Brooklyn Levin earned her second win of the weekend after also recording a save the previous day. She steadied the game in relief and helped shut the door after Fort Lewis had threatened earlier in the contest.
With the sweep, MSU Denver moves to 9-3 overall and continues its red-hot stretch with eight consecutive wins. The Roadrunners' combination of power, patience at the plate and steady pitching has them rolling as conference play heats up.
